HB Staffing is seeking a Public Works Deputy Director to join a growing and dynamic team!
Job Description:
- Assist in planning, supervising and coordinating departmental operations, assigning work activities and monitoring workflow
- Supervise staff, address concerns, mentor, discipline, conduct interviews, and make hiring decisions
- Assist with preparing budgets and managing expenditures
- Supervise and review research studies for project design requirements and site evaluations
- Develop project plans, including specifications, cost estimates and quality requirements
- Review design documents, contractor drawings, and compliance with legal standards before construction
- Observe construction processes to ensure design practicality and resolve issues
- Conduct engineering analyses to identify future capital improvement projects and maintains data
- Coordinate projects with city staff, outside agencies and the public to resolve conflicts
- Ensure safety practices, uphold city policies and foster positive relationships with the public and staff
Position Requirements:
- Knowledge of transportation, engineering, utilities administration, including staff supervision, budgeting, and project management
- Operations and compliance of water and wastewater plant facilities
- Civil engineering methods and practices for public works programs and projects
- Understanding of environmental and safety regulations (federal, state, local, OSHA)
- Contract negotiation, administration, and public hearing processes
- Employee supervision, evaluation, training, and conflict resolution
- Ability to research, analyze data, interpret regulations, and make recommendations
- Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Skilled in preparing and delivering reports, presentations, and maintaining compliance documents
- Competence in using software for document preparation, databases, and communication
